August 2005 - CSEC team will study the effect of pressure on single molecule magnets

CSEC team will study the effect of pressure on single molecule magnets (August 2005). The group lead by Dr. Simon Parsons joint with Dr. D. R. Allan, Prof. A. Harrison, Dr. E. Brechin (School of Chemistry) and Dr. K. V. Kamenev (School of Engineering and Electronics) secures £547K of funding from EPSRC to investigate how pressure affects the structural and magnetic properties of a series of polymetallic complexes which are of intense current interest as single molecule magnets (SMMs). The projects brings together an interdisciplinary team based at The Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow with internationally-leading expertise in synthetic chemistry, high-pressure crystallography and magnetism. The grant will provide support for two postgraduate students and two post-doctoral fellows.
