CSEC celebrates the 5th Erskine Williamson Day

The 2012 Erskine Williamson Day has been held on the 15th of May. The overall theme of the day was Life at Extreme Conditions with the meeting broken loosely into two halves (see the programme below). The morning session was dedicated to Dr. Gail Ferguson who passed away very suddenly on 27th December, 2011. Gail held the post of lecturer in Biological Sciences in Edinburgh and was a member of CSEC for a period of three years before moving to Aberdeen and had several prominent collaborators here. Her long time colleague Prof. Ian Booth (Aberdeen) gave the morning plenary talk. The afternoon session was focused on the new UK Centre for Astrobiology being set up in Edinburgh by Prof. Charles Cockell. Charles gave the afternoon plenary to introduce the field with supporting talks from members of the new venture.
