Research Interests
I am interested in studying the physical properties of solid state materials with function properties. Examples include magnetism, electronic and ionic conductivity, and their associated structural changes (such as negative thermal expansion). A further area of interest is explore the effect of combining multiple anions (such as oxide and fluoride) on the observed physical properties.
Our reserach combines experimental synthesis with characterisation of low and high temperatures, including high-pressure methods. Structural analysis is a key theme to our work, using single crystal and powder diffraction of X-rays and neutrons. We also combine computational methods, incuding data-mining of crystallographic databases, and electronic stucture modelling using density functional theory (DFT).
