April 2004 - The Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions was formally opened by Lord David Sainsbury, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Science and Innovation

The Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions was formally opened by Lord David Sainsbury, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, on Friday 30 April 2004. Lord Sainsbury toured CSEC facilities in the Erskine Williamson Building, and the opening ceremony followed at 11 am. This commenced with a guest lecture by Dr Russell Hemley of the Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution of Washington. Other events including further lectures by visiting scientists followed in the afternoon.
