June 2010 - Dr. Olga Degtyareva wins the European High-Pressure Research Group award

Dr. Olga Degtyareva wins the European High-Pressure Research Group award (June 2010). Dr. Olga Degtyareva (School of Physics and Astronomy and CSEC) has won the 2010 European High Pressure Research Group (EHPRG) Award for her contribution into the studies of pressure-induced complexity of simple elements. She will be presented with the award and deliver a plenary talk at the forthcoming 48th EHPRG Meeting in Uppsala, Sweden. Olga's work spans over the last 10 years starting with her PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Malcolm McMahon and Prof. Richard Nelmes and continuing with her post-doctoral position at the Geophysical Laboratory in USA and back here at the University of Edinburgh and most recently with a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship. These studies resulted in numerous publications including five in Physical Review Letters and two in Nature Materials, and will appear in a form of a review in the next issue of High Pressure Research journal.
